How Do I Pick the Right Weight?

How Do I Pick the Right Weight?

When starting a new program, or even when you are new to training, weight selection can feel daunting. Not to worry. It's important to remember that at the start of any new program, it's very normal to need a week or two to "feel it out" and get into a rhythm.

Below is our recommendation for our athletes:

When choosing a weight for the exercise you are doing - we like the rule of 3-5.

We want to pick a weight where the last 3-5 reps are pretty challenging, but not going to failure. Think about an 8 on a scale of 1-10.

If the workout calls for a set of 8, reps 5,6,7,8 should all be pretty challenging. Doing sets of 3-5 reps, all reps are going to be challenging.

However - no matter what weight you choose ALL EXERCISES SHOULD BE DONE WITH PROPER TECHNIQUE!

Remember, listening to your body is key and so is good movement, first and foremost. Put that ego aside and make sure you nail your lifts before moving up in weight.
